My First Post!

 Hello! 

My name is Brady Gell and I am in the middle of my masters degree in trombone at the University of Iowa. Being a graduate student in a music program, that naturally means I'm very interested in figuring out how to keep "Wendy's Employee" from being my current employment status on my resume. So with that in mind, I want to use this blog to look at and discuss various groups of brass players that have found success in public performance. This could be anything ranging from the Canadian Brass, to the horn section in the band Chicago, to various local performances like the yearly "Holiday Tubas" performances here in Iowa City. I may discuss various other things on here too, but that's what you're generally gonna get from this blog. Hope you enjoy!

He is a member of the German Brass and teaches trumpet at the Hamburg University of Music and theatre. Empire Brass on Japanese Television

 Todays post will be about this video I found on YouTube a few weeks ago  https://youtu.be/Hv-5Rh4L_IA?si=nh52FA9-vSqk5pgH   This video is striking to me because seeing a group of brass chamber musicians playing on live TV is really on something that I think of when it comes to seeing a Salvation Army group play some holiday tunes on the morning news. I’m no stranger to the fact that there used to be a number of variety shows that would feature all kinds of musical acts, but for a program to feature a brass quintet, even the empire brass, is pretty wild to me.  This leads me to my first main point, which is wondering how something like this happened. Some of the answers are fairly obvious, like the fact that Empire Brass was already a popular recording ensemble.
